One of the biggest friggin nightmares in creating this game is just building the foundations before I even attempt to put together an actual prototype. So today I spent almost 16 hours working out a way to have fluid character animation whilst maintaining the classic 2D side-scroller aesthetic I wanted for the project.
I decided the best course would be to put fully-3D animated characters into an environment made up of flat 2D sprites. With an orthographic camera and fake parallax coded into it, It finally came together!
And despite me using third party placeholder art assets at this stage, I think it looks fucking spectacular and I'm so excited to start getting the movement and combat woven in now that I have the visuals pretty much set!
Dougie gets a whole pizza to himself tomorrow for being such a determined boy today. 🧡
